1 – VMware – The King Of Virtualisation Is Dead
We have covered the topic of Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware in the Dec 2022 and Dec 2023 episodes of CSOP.
The most notable recent news has been:
1 – Broadcom making 2800+ VMware staff redundant, shortly after the acquisition completed
2 – Broadcom asking VMware staff to return to the office
3 – Broadcom dissolving all VMware partnerships and asking them to reapply, with CSPs being able to do so, by invitation only
4 – Broadcom just recently deprecating VMware’s free ESXi hypervisor
5 – Sold the EUC business to a relative unknown
6 – Dramatically increased its subscription pricing – in some cases up to 500%
7 – Given the likes of Nutanix a boost
Broadcom make Pat Gelsinger look like a saint!
Nutanix is gleefully rubbing its hands at this opportunity that’s been handed to it by Broadcom. This should also be an opportunity for Global Systems Integrators (GSIs) that can offer VMware’s customers both a route to Public Cloud, as well as take on some of those hard-to-shift workloads into their own data centres, as a managed service.
