An Intel Atom C3000 Series Proxmox Server!

I took another look at the Tometek TC300-TTG to use as a Proxmox server now that a longstanding Linux kernel v6.x bug has been fixed.

Prior to August 2024 and kernel version 6.8.12-1, connecting the X553 SFP+ 10G interface to a network switch would not work properly (but connecting another PC directly to the X553 worked properly). To work around this issue, you would have to compile the Intel X553 driver which has its own set of issues (every kernel update requires a recompile and the driver could break when there are major kernel version changes).

At the time of this video with the Proxmox v8.2-2 download, you will have to update to the latest in the repository in order to get kernel version 6.8.12-1 or newer in order to be able to connect your 10G interfaces to a network switch without issue.

So that is great news for everyone with the Intel Atom C3000 series CPUs as I know they are popular among homelabbers!

Disclaimer: This video is sponsored by Tometek but I had full editorial control over the content in the video. I used most of the sponsored money to upgrade the TC300-TTG to make it more viable as a nice Proxmox server with lots of RAM (ECC RAM as well since it supports it!) and more storage.
