Today we’re taking a look at my current Unraid server that I use for my data stuff like Linux ISOs, system backups, homelab files, and more digital junk. I’ve been an Unraid user for many years now, and I’ve watched this storage operating system really grow into an awesome hypervisor storage combo product with a huge community that has tons of support and apps. This video is mostly an update to my last main Unraid server video which was a while ago. I used to use an AMD 1920X Threadripper system which was super awesome. Tons of CPU power, tons of PCI express lanes and best of all, I got it long after the first gen Threadripper came out so the price was right. The only issue that I had with that platform was power usage, both idle and load. I run some game servers, some VMs, and a few dockers that are always doing stuff. That system idled around 70w I think and with everything going it was around 200 to 230w. I know that might sound very low to some people out there, especially if you’re running like an R720 or something but I wanted the power consumption even lower. I wanted to spend less on power and I wanted the system to be able to run a little longer if the power went out and the UPS kicked on. Low power usage, less strain on the UPS. So, my Unraid system is now powered by my Intel 12600k with a gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 motherboard. I’m running a 2 by 16gb memory kit for a total of 32gb of DDR4-3600.
