‘A very dangerous game’: Ian Plimer criticises Tanya Plibersek’s gold mine move

Geologist Ian Plimer has expressed concern over Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek’s blockage of a billion-dollar goldmine in NSW as he warned against the “frivolous” plan.

“The message the Albanese government is parting is ‘don’t worry about investing in Australia’,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“You can’t be investing huge amounts of money for a couple of decades and then at the 11th hour on some frivolous reason you cut off the project – you have to know where you stand.

“The government doesn’t have money. The government has taxpayers’ money. You don’t have such a thing as government money.”

Mr Plimer urged Ms Plibersek and the Albanese government against playing a “very dangerous game” and encouraged them to consider the potential repercussions the closure may have on local job prosperity.

“On one hand she [Plibersek] is killing off an employment-generating gold mine in an area where employment is needed,” he added.

“800 jobs in a big city like Melbourne or Sydney is hardly noticed, but 800 jobs in a rural area has a profound economic impact.”

  1. This is the same as the Hindmarsh Island Bridge scam in 1994 with SECRET WOMENS BUSINESS , indigenous people claiming sacred ground , Nyree Reynolds claiming she hears voices, thats mental illness not sacred ground and Tanya Plibersek didn't do too much research, she can't even pronounce the name of the Belubula River, probably has never set foot in Blayney let alone the McPhillamy mine site

  2. Another corrupt politician. How much longer can this go on? The corruption in our system is sickening. We as citizens abide by laws, yet our politicians are always on the knifes edge with ethics, morals and corruption. It disgusts that it mis like this. Pauline Hanson for PM

  3. This woman is so totally left, she has completely left the society we live in. Utterly stupid idiot who has no right to inflict her opinions on the rest of us. For Petes sake, kick her out.

  4. Just as well that Mrs Coutts-Trotter was not a Minister when gold was found in Australia in 1851, or we might have some 27 million fewer residents than we have today. A Billion dollars of prosperity? Nah…the A.L.P. (Always Looting the Poor) much prefers monstrous deficits, huge borrowings and being in hock to the Chi-Coms. Maybe if her hubby reverts to his old profession, the Coutts-Trotters could possibly put the odd few shekels back into our National beggars-bowl?

  5. Plibersek….blatantly lies to Australia, we all know it. She knows it, we all have serious discussions and THATS ALL THAT EVER HAPPENS… she’ll be doing the same tomorrow, like all our other politicians

  6. Plibersek. There it is again. That condescending little high school girl "I just know so much more than you, you idiot" smirk & turned up corner of the mouth little laugh. It seems from listening to other indigenous groups that Plibersek is indifferent to the hundreds of jobs & consequent lift out of poverty/welfare for these people. Fair to say then that it's clear that Plibersek, in her arrogance, has absolutely no idea what she's doing….at ALL!
