This just seems like half baked casa os
18:23 Storage with benefits😂😂😂
The license is per server as well? Even harder sell.
And I can't find a list of what the excluded features from lifetime actually are. Just the one sentence disclaimer on the front page. Honestly, this deal is going for way too short of a time for how miniscule an amount of information has been given about this. It could be worth it, but there's too many unanswered questions.
HexTech from Arcane
How will I move my netflix, amazon and apple movies and tv shows to HexOS?
I wish I had a second functioning system to be able to deploy this in, mess around with, and learn more about this type of stuff. One day I will.
Cloudflare zero access might limit videos :/ should probly setup Caddy and portforward only 443, making everything HTTPS or Ngnix Proxymanager, and only certain things with Cloudflare
I mean if they are using docker a lot of docker compose file you can usually specify a user name and password and database to point to manually and that’s how unraid basically does that in the app install config text boxes and adding your own as well if you want more
$99 is okay but 299 is too expensive – at that price you can buy a synology NAS or other good options wirh arguably better software and hardwarw
Valiant effort but I honestly don't see self hosting become mainstream until everything is sold as a single plug and play box (including a step by step guide to configuring your firewall and dyndns for every isp provided router out there)
Plex is pretty great, had to write my own ffmpeg scripts to batch process some content but with the help of AI I'm enjoying 50TB of ultra realistic media without the ads, lean libraries, timed offers and lower quality deliverables based on whether you agree to data harvesting clauses that are by default on.
Sorry, 99$ or more for one server licensing is ridiculous. Even Plex does not limit your servers after you buy their licensing. you gave the example of the buddy system but that can apply to even yourself where you could have two servers one at home and one at the parents or somewhere off site but now you have to spend an extra hundred dollars or more on each one, not including the hardware
Keep the price at 99 for the first year and drop the one server
I've been following along with the development of this, and I'm looking forward to the full release. I hope there's an easy way to migrate from TrueNAS Core!
Huh that looks just like the YoYo Games logo wild lol
So, it's another one of those products where the user would rather pay their way into configuring a self-hosted solution rather than spending time and knowledge configuring it. Not saying it's a bad thing, but if one would choose a paid solution anyway, at least there's finally a user-friendly one that users aren't vendor-locked into.
I dont like the price but i understand why it is.This is a niche product. and the thousands of man hours spent is evedent with how refined the set up procedure is.

👍
Can I run it on docker on a raspberry pi tho?
this isnt going to be better than truenas or the other stuff in the market, very unlikely
classic, linus trying to scam his viewers
I mean Casa OS does a great job for me to hold my files and look nice and be easy and run all kinds of apps. and is free
culdent they do qr codes like discord for logins for apps
Can that permissions screen get back ported to Truenas? For real, permissions universally suck.
I get paying for something if you suck at this stuff but for someone like myself who is a systems engineer with two decades of experience, this is not worth my cash. I paid a lifetime plex membership so if Hex included all app licenses inside the OS then I see value. Otherwise I will stick to my own setup. I don't need help in this department.
It may be a good idea to make an open source version that folks like me can skip the atrocious and setting-hiding "wizards" but have it look like a custom Tru-Nas server – then I would think about using it. I'm a command line junkie who automates my own stuff the first time through – then use tools like puppet or ansible to keep it working. Sorry, just not a customer.
starting to bake ads into half way through content wont stop skipping btw. pointless editing time but ok
i woulkd be happy to pay for this kind of things in a version delivery manner like 99 for all the beta and ALL FUTURE versions seems execive and unmatainable if we expect this to keep improving so wi owuld like for them to say beta and maybe one or two years of version updates, So fi i want to update i have to sign in to my account and download the update and if my payment has no more versions available i need to pay anothe lifetime license
👍
For that price I would just learn to use TrueNAS. I’m out.
Linus: Say no to subscriptions 😎
Also Linus: Now lets hear from our sponsor Odoo, availabe for only $24.90 per month 🤑
So…what this is different from, CasaOs or UmbrelOs or ZimaOs, for example? And they are free and open source…
Looks good, but I won't use it because it isn't open source.
Hi from komam
Is it possible not to give Google and CloudFlare access to my homelab ? Otherwise it defeats 50% of the purprose
