Have you ever installed the nas software (ADM, on your on hardware?
Even though YouTube's PT-BR dubbing is very artificial, the platform's intuition in covering other languages is interesting, great video.
I would love to see added to the videos how many watts each nas uses.
I have terramaster and it works very well
Asustor shipped the Lockstor Gen 3 without ANY documentation for ADM 5 but included documentation for ADM 4 ….they are developing a reputation for terrible customer service as well as higher then sane pricing. Qnap are basically a platform for hosting ransomware and malware on your network and the rest are Chinese with all the security implications that comes with, I'm afraid as terrible as Synology are …as awful as they treat their customers …they are the ONLY decent solution available…and that's coming from someone who absolutely hates Synology as a company. I don't know why all these other NAS companies keep on kicking own goals but it's still happening …I mean Qnaps reaction (or lack thereof) and misinformation this week given their history is just plain nuts… I had high hopes for Asustor but they have decided that they are a Premium brand (they aren't) that has a massive market share (it's minuscule) and their whole Gen 3 series just reeks of delusional mismanagement not to mention that pretty much every social media thread is showing multiple issues with not just terrible but actually false and incorrect statements from their own customer support staff… I mean how can you ship a product with not only ZERO accurate documentation but actively false documentation included…. I shudder.
I went with tereamaster 424 pro. I don't care much about default software. We can selfhost everything with docker. And there is plenty of good soft available for everyone.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
My ASUS AS7004T the screen started to flicker after 8 years but still works. Purchased the QNAP tvs h874x and the Ugreen DXP8800 for the hardware. Hopefully QNAP and Ugreen out last the ASUSTOR.
Seem you keep shortchanging the ZimaCube Pro IMO, it's great for anyone that wants to roll their own OS choice.
Im really inbetween the ugreen 4 bay pro and terramaster 4 bay pro for black friday sales. The ugreen looks way better build wuality and 10gb netwoeking is a nice future proof item. The lack of a native plaex app is a negative for me. I use a custom mini pc now with OMV or open media vault os and docker to run plex. Im not a docker fan. Making changes, rebuilding the kmage or stack. Manually looking up puid. Stuff breaking in image updates… its a pain… i would like a easier to use native plex app like on terramaster. But i also want an app that allows automatic photo syncs from my families phones… thst was not covered well in this video or others. What does ugreen and terramaster have for auto photo syncs from phones?
Got a terramaster F4-424 base model a few months ago just for the fact you can toss a third party os on it in less than 10 minutes also allows for upgradable RAM as a upgrade down the line. Also couldn't build a nas myself in the same form factor for cheaper than the terramaster.
The quality of the AI voice is horrible and undermines the quality of the channel. I would recommend not using it.
AND WHAT ABOUT TRU-NAS IS THAT I WAS THINKING about buying a Chinese plate of 2.5 or 10 and using that. What do you experts think about that? I am ignorant, I mean regarding these more expensive options.
27:11 never seen a subscriptionfor a community repo, that wild
deciding from a performance for budget point of view, the hard drives will define the rest. going with 4x 18TB recertified dual actuator mach2 drives, reusing 2 older m2 SSDs for caching, a ZFS architecture, would clearly be the way to go. either a) frankensteinian DIY with the latest Truenas scale using a usb 3.2 DAS JBOD subsystem and an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 16GB combined with two rare RTL8157 5Gbe USB LAN adapters or b) a Qnap TS-464-8G upgraded with a second 8GB stick and QuTS hero using port trunking and a 2.5 USB LAN adapter, assuming a decent lan switch is already in place. then it is clearly a decision of priorities, more options and a steeper learning curve versus an almost out-of-the-box experience with less tinkering.
You forgot to mention a HUGE problem. Buying a NAS from Chinese owned companies is not a wise idea. Remember that there’s no such thing as a privately held company in China. If the Chinese government wants access to data, these companies HAVE to submit whether they like it or not. Remember after all what you will be storing on your NAS…
Can all of them be easily replaced with (upgraded to) TrueNAS?
Robert, I mainly come to this channel because you are a genuinely honest guy, who can tell it very enthusiastically!
I have serious doubts about the Ugreen, it is more my curiosity that compels than reason. But let's be honest, we do not choose a NAS because it has a slot for an SD card connection or not!? It is about, how stable is it, is there good support for the applications and firmware. And especially what is the network speed when I make a backup, or when I am working with 3 people on this NAS in my personal shared folder.
3 things about software are the most important to me:
* Backup / Sync options to my computer
* Photos and videos application (incl. IP cams)
* Virtual machines application that I can quickly run and remove
If this is stable and fast, and there is innovation in the applications and OS such as with QNAP, then you as a user really cannot complain! If you get an update 2x per year, and 1x per year for some application doesn't give me the feeling that it is active and alive.
Running alternative OS is another point too.
TerraMaster can run almost anything you want, even the Synology DSM via ARC Loader.
UGreen can run many things, but DSM i havent testet yet.
ASUSTor i dont think can run anything beside it own OS.
you talk so fast I get lost in what is what LOL
Can someone advise me on which to get as i see a lot and can’t decide. I want to build my own cloud storage and stop using one drive. I plan to use the system for home and small business. My use case includes file storage, photos, videos, videos editing, want to be able to retrieve or access it from anywhere in the world through phone or computer. Any experience users out there, I need your take
With basic tech skills you can build your own storage system for a fraction of what these absurdly over priced jokes cost and make it so its easy to expand and grow as your needs increase!
Perfect timing! I've been tempted by some BF deals, but still deciding. Leaning toward Terramaster F4-424 with Unraid – assuming they'll have license deals on Friday! 😅
ugreen nas regional availability has less to do with them being a big company already supplying the world with their other products and more to do with the scale of their nas manufacturing. yes they have lots of facilities all over the world but it takes time to retool those facilities or open new facilities to meet demand, which is absolutely staggering at the moment. I'm sure they will eventually expand, but right now they are focused on meeting the demand of their initial markets, not to mention ironing out QC in the meantime.
And there's me, with HDD connnected via usb 3.0 and a NUC as the server
Did I understood it correctly, the Ugreen Thunderbolt does not allow networking over it?
What is your opinion on the TerraMaster D4-320 DAS?
