High court bid for Stilfontein miners’ relief
The High Court in Pretoria is today expected to hear the main application in the stand-off between illegal miners and police at a mine in Stilfontein in the North West.
The organisation, Society for the Protection of our Constitution, approached the court for relief for the unconfirmed number of illegal miners.
The court, on Saturday granted interim measures pending the finalisation of the main application which in summary ordered that the mine shaft in Stilfontein, must be unblocked for emergency personnel and that no person should block it.
We now cross to SABC News reporter, Canny Maphanga to tell us more.

The right to life, these are human beings. The SA government are showing their true colors, disgusted at their behavior. What are they waiting for? Murderous thugs.
Illegals have more rights than citizens in SA. They’ll never stop coming.
These organisations that are fighting for illegal foreigners where are they when South Africans are crying – our children are dying and they are so quiet. Who owns these organisations? Whose constitutional rights are they protecting? South Africans must wake up, these organisations are owned by foreign nationals.
Lol the court just went "Woke" 😂
Ridiculous the govt doesnt need to look after zama zamas
I copy this from Kasi Economi.. Sarel Sello is a leader of the Zama Zamas group Terene ea Mokata.
According to Sello, the group collects R135 million every month from their 900 000 members who contribute R150pm.
Thank you, Canny!
Courts are being used by NGO'S and criminals
This entire situation just gets more & more senseless…🤯
So at the shaft/mine head there are no cranes, no mines rescue equipment, no construction machinery, no triage for the rescued miners, no representatives of the mine &/or landowners or government dept of mineral resources, nothing at all…
What a farcical & embarassing operation this has become, all whilst the world watches…🙄
They are in the country illegally, partake in illegal activities, they have no regard for our laws and they expect the court to protect them? What madness is this??
Let them come out then…..
African Miners are the gold standard of Africa and allow you to have computers, cameras, technology! Unemployed Miners deserve respect and life!
