Death exists for a reason. I can imagine no project as short-sighted and philosophically blind as the mission to abolish death. What you would end up with would not be humans that can live forever, nor gods. Instead, they would be abominations, and leave behind everything that ever really made us human. In other words, the end of death would effectively be the abolition of our humanity. Totalitarian control would have to take the place of natural selection so as to prevent resource scarcity. We would basically have to stop breeding, and stop growing or developing as a species, stuck in an eternal living death of pointless hedonism. It is only through our personal attachments to the things of the world that we come to dread death. The Modern Age hid death away from the public eye, and the Postmodern Age pathologized aging and death as things that don't need to happen, as something we can undo, an unneccessary evil. This pathologizing of death goes hand in hand with the culture of selfishness, of consumerism and indeed, transhumanism. Transhumanism is the ultimate expression of human hubris, the rejection of the beautiful and self-sustaining natural order, the rejection of cosmic balance, in favor of personal desires, beneath which everything else is subordinated. It is not like the rest of the projects mankind has started because as much as we create an artificial environment, we have still maintained our animal nature, still form families and reproduce, so we were merely making the pursuit of our instinctual goals easier through technology. But transhumanism seeks to change humanity itself on an integral level, and in a fashion which is all too familiar with anyone that is familiar with the occultic Left Hand Path. It is one thing to bend the external natural world to our collective will, but it is quite another to fundamentally alter mankind itself, fusing them with machines and attempting to "progress" past all of the traditions that ever gave our lives meaning. Physical immortality is a gift offerred to mankind by demons. We will regret accepting that gift, I guarantee it. Just imagine a world in which the globalist oligarchs are now immortal, guaranteed to rule for millennia to come, just becoming more and more powerful and distant from the rest of mankind that cannot afford to buy immortality. If you think wealth inequality is bad now, just imagine what it would be like if even the Great Equalizer were defeated by Mammon…I shudder to think of such a world. Basically the number one thing that makes Earth distinct from Hell is death. On Earth, we can die, but in Hell, the worm dieth not, and weeping and gnashing of teeth goes on forever. I feel quite certain that the introduction of bodily immortality would essentially change the Earth into a living Hell, not a paradise. Immortality plus the selfish, sinful nature of the ultra rich is a reputation for horrors beyond imagining. Immortality can only be a positive thing when it is combined with perfect righteousness. There is a reason God didn't want Adam and Eve to eat of both the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. Had they continued to eat of the Tree of Life, they essentially would have wound up becoming dark gods, following after their own passions and appetites. A world of immortal billionaires would be a world dominated by Cain.

I was expecting to hear something about micheal levins research towards the beginning. Transhumanism doesn't need to lead to a "desire to escape death" or "soulless simulations". Transhumanism isn't all about becoming one with a mechanistic system. Death is for everything, thats how change happens. There is no evolution without death.

Hm, I disagree with the narrative of this video as a transhumanist who agrees with the premise you are trying to counter. The body is a machine. A highly specialized but messy inefficient yet impressively competent machine, but a machine nonetheless.

Regarding the point around 14:00, and I know it's tangential to your main point, but basically no there is no reason to think we "renew" our atoms every seven years. It's not just that there is no evidence for it, but that in quantum field theory it makes no sense to say one's body is "just an aggregate of atoms in a certain configuration". This is one of my main issues with materialism as a scientist, it's not based on actual physics etc, but a sort of over the top exaggerated reading of 19th century statistical mechanics.
