Windows 11 24H2 is Crashing With Certain Western Digital SSDs | Workaround
Seems to be affecting WD Black SN770 and WD Blue SN580 drives. Here is the Registry fix:
Open the Registry Editor app by running REGEDIT
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorPort key
Create a new HmbAllocationPolicy subkey if it is already not present
Set the DWORD value of the above key to 0
Restart the PC

How do you even open Registry Editor app when I can't get past the blue screen?

my pc i just got used a wd sn770 god i hope a fix is rolled up before windows forces me to update even though i've snoozed it
Don't set it to 0 that disables it and makes ur ssd much worse set it to 2 that changes it back to 64mb
I had sn770 500gb nothing happened so far i also installed 24h2 fresh without updating
My RAID 0 – WD GREEN is died after Windows update
what wrong with Microsoft nowadays, they keep releasing bugs on public build
pc plantè avec 24 h2
i send my disk rma today what is this mannnn 😀 cmon.. i got sn580 2tb but i dont get blue screen i use it for games. when i click game i got error game and i try to open game folders windows said disk not found… wd dashboard not see my disk but windows disk manager see. when i restart everything normal but when i play or any use program like crystal disk mark disk goes off…
It works weĺl on my ssd very smooth and better gaming performance than 23h2. By the way what is digital ssd i use nvme ssd .
I got the BSOD "inaccessible boot device" after the upgrade to 24H2. This is on a Gen4 NVME m.2 drive on an x570 board. I am also now unable to install Windows 11 onto gen4 NVME drives. I wonder if anyone else has this same issue.
”Update” once, shame on Micro$oft. “Update” twice, shame on me.
the work around does not work.
Glad I'm still on Arch
luckily my server is using a samsung ssd i would of used a wd ssd but onyl samsung software works on server but ive since converted my server to use regular windows though it was a desktop pc being repurprosed as a server
Wow, if you only knew how much fun I've had with installing 24H2. On the first link I installed it, got it up and running then got the Blue Screen of Death. I used Acronis to reinstall 22H2. Then went to the download site and went all the way to the bottom downloaded the ISO, used Rufus to download it to a thumb drive, and attempted to reinstall it again it ran for a few, then brought up Google Chrome and it crashed again. So, I reinstalled 22H2 and am leaving it on Windows 10 Pro. As you know I have the Z790 MB with 32GB of RAM using the i5 12400 CPU and the RTX 3080 GPU. I have the Western Digital SN770 2TB NVme SSD
The error showed Critical Process Died I might try this fix. I'm going to consult with Carey Holzman by email he helped me get 24H2 up and running by doing a clean install of the OS. I had all my files in thumb drives so reinstalling them wasn't a hassle. No real issues after the Clean Install of 24H2.
odd that it set to 0, different one i seen where it said 2, though 0 is off, 1 is 8mb, 2 is 64mb, 3 is firmware controlled buffer size. wonder if its just cause the registry is gone? for me im still on win 10 but i never had the registry key, but when i added it and i know mine supports 64mb i noticed system became responsive (i didnt know my hmb was not running all this time)
Thanks for the heads up. As an independent computer tech myself, it's useful info!
I tried it for a week and had crashes in the cyberpunk 2077 game, on the other hand the GUI still feels slow and gets stuck sometimes, so I've decided to go back to Windows 10 22h2 until 11 has some considerable improvement.
Anybody know if this is also happening with the WD_Black SN850X? That model also lacks DRAM, I believe.
did u guys know rufus has a new beta with the patches for 24h2 for fresh installs on unsupported hardware
Thanks for your investigation.
I just installed the 24H2 update and it doesn't have recall or copilot at all. Runs great
I think that 24H2 is not mandatory. You have to install it only if you want.
Bugger, all my PCs use an SN770 Nvme as the main OS. At least, all are dual boot with Linux where I spent most of my time.
After I installed 24h2 (and debloated all uwp apps) on my main pc, my storage said i got 201gb free of 222gb but after the KB5044284 update, my storage said i got 205gb free of 222gb.
24H2 was in beta for ages. I can't believe they did not discover this.
wow, I am so grateful my two M2s on this system are HP…
