Kernel level anti-cheat needs to go away, and this is a step in the right direction.

edit: I misspoke about valve having kernel-mode anticheat, meant to say valorant. my bad. haha subscribe plz
Does Kernal mode anticheat work? Cause I don't really care about the security of my gaming rig as long as cheaters get fucked (I don't play any games with Kernal anticheats)

The only thing Vanguard interfered with was the skin changer. The only thing Riot Games is capable of when it comes to combating cheaters is to keep the issue quiet. They include clauses in contracts prohibiting the mention of cheats, or they pre-moderate posts on Reddit, for example. If you're familiar with the situation, there are still private cheats that allow dodging skillshots perpendicularly, instead of along the altered trajectory. Not to mention QBQ, which allowed manipulating matchmaking (at least from 2017 to 2020, though it was eventually patched or went fully underground)
i always hated how since w8 microsoft has been limiting "admins" to make things easier and less likely to break to the average user, i do get that it is the bigger market, but it dosent take my right to be annoyed at it, and they could easily just make those thing be different with the diferent versions ex: pro and home, and this one could be done by just apliying it to the enterprise version and there you have a version expecific for that type of use/eviroment
You were wrong.
Interesting fun fact. Microsoft posted this blogpost on September 12, but if you're on Windows 11, you can go into "Windows Security", and inside of the "Device Security" section you have the following:
– Core isolation
– Security processor
– Secure boot
– Data encryption
If you click into core isolation, you have memory integrity, Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack protection, and Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist.
Per the description provided below each option:
– Memory integrity prevents attacks from inserting malicious code into high-security processes.
– Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack protection prevents attacks that substitute return addresses in kernel-mode memory to launch malicious code.
If you're an user of Epic Games, you'll notice that Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack protection is off, and if you attempt to turn it on, you'll receive an error because of easyanticheat_eos.exe. My advice? do what I did. Uninstall it until it's announced that their anti-cheat is no longer blocking you from enabling this feature. When it comes to entertainment companies we all have a means to vote, our money and the time we spend on said platforms. Will I miss Rocket League?? very very much. Will I put my system at risk? you know the answer.
Epic Games is not above any one company, and they do not reserve the right to stick to archaic practices that could potentially affect their users. AI has changed the landscape of cyber security because any tom, dick and harry can run AI locally or even through online services that gives them knowledge to do harm, or "experiment" with malicious code even if they don't truly understand the consequences.
However if you give this an impartial overview, who stands to ultimately benefit if Epic Games is "unable" or uninspired to make the change? .. That's right! The Microsoft store, and Game Pass… (well and steam but you know).
"Let them fight."
Microsoft is giving developers new ways to interact with the operating system. Not removing acces to the kernel. Nice click bait tho.
Hopefully these news makes Riot reconsider their anti-cheat on the upcoming 2XKO
Would have been better in putting the sources.
my biggest fear is that if these companies get hacked, hackers could do like anything to our computers due to the amount of control these kernel level anti cheats have on our computer
but people say that "they are big companies, so how will they get hacked?"
my answer is always that if US government can get hacked, why can't these companies? π
I have a policy myself that I will never run any game that require kernel access. I think most (if not all) the executable should run just fine without needing administrator privilege
Aaaand you were wrong.. The whole article was wrong sadly
i'd rather have a small chance of getting hacked than playing againist hackers KHM KHM CS2
The end of Kernel level anticheat will be the end of competitive gaming. For the casual user at least. As soon as Leauge and Valorant turn into HvH lobbies, i'll never play them again.
"A Ransomware author wrote Ransonware code that used a Bug in "whatevers" kernel mode anticheat"
Dude there are thousands of Ransonware coders out there using a bug called "windows"
Imagine using an OS that lets you install programs as an admin that you are then, as an admin not allowed to uninstall anymore
Please, please incentivise server-side anticheat. That way i can continue cheating in CS until the end of time, which is what i will do too
no, microsoft basically says " we think that we as operation system should have exclusive monopoly on spying on every user via kernel access, and all other companies should be stripped off their abilities and forced to buy access from us via some sort of license to use our exclusive kernel spyware that we will install directly into every future version of our operating systems"
now we have many companies asking us for a permission to get access to our kernel, in future we will have mandatory kernel spyware installed without our permission that's the change, and people celebrating this are low iq
Microsoft should just create their own hard integrated Windows Anticheat which devs can integrate to their games, if they managed to create an Antivirus, why not this too? you already have Game Mode, make an Anticheat too, microsoooooft
How bout now?
If youβre saying that games will eventually receive a message from the OS if the execution environment is trustedβ¦ does that mean something like SafetyNet for Windows?
I dislike the Windows 11 SecureBoot and TPM requirements maybe they bring security to the average user but to me they sound like you do not own the computer anymore, at least not fully. If Windows introduces something SafetyNet-like, weβll be toast and users are indifferent to whether or not they have control over their devicesβ¦
real
praying that complete linux gaming is possible soon cause i want to make the switch from windows but dont cause of games and i dont want to dual boot
Valorant anti cheat is still bad btw π I know multiple people that has been cheating for years in immo and radiant
Everyone knows that the greatest anti-cheat known to man is that one guy from the clan who hosts the dedicated server you play on, who's always around.
"jenshin"
Nah kernel anti cheats are not going away. This is click bait.
i hope this is true, i hope i can go back to playing league without the invasive vanguard
valve ahead of the curve I guess
They called me crazy when I said having a kernel level anti heat was a cancer for your pc
Look at them now
o god please, i can finally entirely move over to Linux…
Best solution = windows puts an anti-cheat/hack built in the kernel.. where now any game developer can make a user access anti cheat that can access an API of the kernel access anti cheat of windows.. to do the " checks" that a gaming anti cheat needs…. but sad truth is that miscrosoft is lazy.. and they never do anything…
I Need a link for that dishwasher wasching clothes π
Gaben winning again without doing anything as per usual. Valve doesn't have any kernel level anticheat.
well, that was an incredibly misleading article
This is one of the very, very few W Microsoft had over the last few years in terms of possible changes
Yeah I get it but… Jenshin Impact…
"Kernel level anti cheat" can we please stop this white washing and call it what it is?
It is game companies installing malware on your PC
So basically they are saying cheating should be allowed
Client-side anti-cheat has never had good reason to exist and still does not. Intelligent methods have always existed to make detections server side and they have only improved. Client side flags audio drivers and other peripherals merely because a kernal level cheater has spoofed such a driver. They are asinine.
i felt kernel level anti-cheat was so fucking invasive that i just outright quit playing games that required that.
Iβm going to be very blunt, I donβt care about any of this. All my data is safely stored in cloud solutions separate from my gaming pc – if I was to get hacked Iβd just nuke my pc and reinstall window from scratch – as long as I can avoid having cheaters in my games. I donβt care what level of access the anticheat has
league has wayyyy less cheaters and the popularity of the game didn't drop, if you drop league then good on you but this has only helped league.
P.S if you think the FBI isnt already looking at your stuff then idk what to tell you.
Although its a step in the right direction, I rather have Kernel level anti cheat now so I can enjoy playing my favorite fps again like CS and Apex.
1:20 didn't the update get pushed just fine and it only fouled when Microsoft changed the directories?
These mfs need to level kernels alone
How about we as people rise our morals so no one cheats
