How to get a title and vin number to a custom built or classic car

Any thoughts on this:
I have a car that I bought about 20 years ago which had absolutely no VIN numbers or any identification on it other than the ancient title that I got with the car which seemed to match the car correctly.
I am wondering if this process which you outlined could work if I somehow could make this a new car using the unibody as the base.
I think I know the answer, but I'm looking for better answers, LOL.
This is not what I expected.
how much do you have into your Fast Back$$$
Requirements are different by state. Body swaps are supposed to have a new assembled vehicle VIN in MI. Car also needs to be complete. Here's Michigan's guide: https://www.michigan.gov/sos/-/media/Project/Websites/sos/01lawensn/BFS72__0903_.pdf
Not in NJ !
Show receipts for an unfinished car…and pay tax on that???
The only reason cops can repossess your car is because you gave it to them in the first place.
#Unconstitutional #fraud
Can you obtain your MSO for your car?
Show me the rolls of steel and presses you used to make all the shell parts and frame . I say Lego package.
Its lacking 1 digit isnt it
For a 10th time, was that built brand new by you?
bs
I’ve been going back and watching your videos from oldest to newest and this is such a helpful video. Question, for a body swap the state checks the vin on the donor floor pan. Do you need a title or does a bill of sale suffice in that situation? Also do you think it would matter what the donor floor pan is, like if you had a Chevrolet or dodge floor under your mustang panels for some reason do you think that would change anything?
Only problem, it is still considered a home built…..
If im building a car from scratch I'm picking my own vin number!
It would be based on the models original vin so it makes sense. I don't care if its starts with a G for Georgia.
Example G22F67FM
G=Georgia, 22=2022 build date, F= Ford, 67= model year of body style, fm= fastback mustang, next would be the factory digit of the engine in it…ect.
If ford used a 6 as a code for a super charged 302 in 2016 and I used the same engine that would be my next number and so on until I ended in my last two initials and 01.
I would put my number in all the places there supposed to be, let the police run a check on my vin number then take everything to the dmv.
If they don't like it the can put a sticker on the door jamb also but your not changing my vin number!
No state tells any other manufacturers what vin numbers they will be issuing. If they try with you thats discriminatory with no basis to impose such a rule on you.
Police check whatever vin is visible with a description to insure it is not a stolen, duplicate, or destroy vin number. If the number the check is clean they write the visible vin number on the paperwork and then the dmv cannot change that because that woud be fraud.
Car, boat, trailer, lawn tractor, it doesnt matter. If the manufacturer /maker puts a vin number on it the state cannot change it. They can only assign you one if it doesn't exist.
Pretend it's your child and give it a name/ vin number
Sounds like you already have a good relationship with the inspector just tell him what your doing and why. You get past him the dmv will have to record whatever he witnesses as a existing vin number on his paperwork.
For anyone noticing comments on here about not registering a car, it being "for private transit", not having a driver's license, yammering about colonial corporations, or other goofy pseudo-legalese stuff, that's all Sovereign Citizen talking points. They're generally under an incorrect impression that if you don't register your car and tell the cops some magic phrases they're not allowed to stop you from driving a car on public roads.
Feel free to look up videos on just how incorrect that winds up on youtube when they're pulled over, but you absolutely have to have your car titled, registered, tagged, and insured to drive it on public roads anywhere in the US, and trying to argue with a cop different is a quick way to at a minimum get cited for lack of registration/license, and more likely get arrested and have your car impounded, even if you get one of their cutesy fake license plates that says "EXEMPT".
Thanks for making this video! Dealing with cars in legally uncommon situations such as this is often scary for folks, and being as it's different state to state it's nice to hear the process in a straightforward step by step way. I'm sure lots of states have it less easy to do than you do in TN, but I imagine most are fairly similar. Worst-case you can do a bonded title, and convert it in a few years.
Receipts: Carbon receipts evaporate from the paper in time . Lucky I listed mine on a 2.5" floppy disc 😛
So I asked this question earlier on a video of yours. Then the algorithm showed me this. This answers my question, thanks!!
Great videos. I've become a subscriber. What would the title say, "1967 Ford Mustang" or something else? Thanks.
What about a military HUMMVE and you HAVE ALL of the purchase papers from one of two auction houses that sell them? They have a nonconformal serial number to that of the modern manufacturers?
Imagine being such a slave that you would take the thing you made and grant a municipal corporation interest in it. You're going backwards here. If you build your own car you don't need a title, registration, stickers, or a license. These are all tools of satan.
So my 2004 sierra 1500 got shredded by a semi trailer the cab itself is NOT repairable it ripped the back passenger door off the hinges and bent the door jam towards the back glass and the bed the front passenger door still opens and closes fine but the outside handle was also ripped off I don’t wanna get rid of the truck if I can rebuild it. I have a clean title insurance is going to deem it totaled since it’s an 04 and labor is not cheap so that being said can I get a donor cab , swap all my interior and put my Vin number in the new cab and Use my driver door and put my door jam sticker on the new cab ? Technically the motor, trans, frame, would all still be the same just not the cab and the rear passenger door. Is it worth it? What would you do
When we get this vin….vin number controversy ironed out can we move on to people who say hot water heater (You know who you are) they need to be STOPPED!!!!!!!!
HERE IN SD if i want to put a 1933 chevy truck body with NO IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS "IN THE DMV SYSTEM" on a modern frame, all i need is the bill of sale's for the body, the frame, the engine, and the axles. the DMV will send a state trouper to inspect for stolen parts, and issue a title with NEW VIN!!!
here is an example to study: you have a titled, registered . and licensed 80's square body chevy , crew cab, dually 1 ton with a long box. its your daily driver. you park it and remove the cab and bed to do a restoration. you buy a 65 passenger school bus with a totally mechanical diesel engine, lets say it is a DT360A and you remove the body to use as a storage shed.
you decide to set the cab on the bus frame and make mounts for it. then set the bed and mark for center of axle location. move the spring hangers, springs and axle as 1 unit to the new location, and drill and bolt them in. then you decide to swap in a set of Rockwell 5 ton axles and a transfer case to make it a 4 wheel drive. lower the bed, hook everything up etc.. as long as the highest point on this truck is under the maximum legal limit, IT IS 100% ROAD LEGAL, AND IS STILL AN 1980'S CHEVY SQUARE BODY TRUCK!!! NO NEED TO EVEN TELL THE DMV YOU SWAPPED EVERYTHING!!
IF YOUR STATE DOES NOT REQUIRE A YEARLY "SAFETY" /SMOG CHECK, YOU CAN ROLL COAL ALL DAY LONG AND BE TITLED AS A GAS BURNER!!!!!!
ALL 100% LEGAL!!!
Any reason why not to buy a junker with a title and take the vin? Idk just curious
