Those hyped shoes are bullshit of course, I would never buy a Nike sneaker for more than 150 bucks. And you could argue that based on the quality of the materials, even that is too much. But let's be real, I'm not buying them for durability or the quality of the leather or anything like that. I buy them because they look cool and are (for the most part) very comfortable. I have three pairs of blazers mid 77, the oldest of them three years old I think. And they still look awesome! I don't go crazy with the cleaning, usually do it at the beginning of the year before spring begins and maybe a second time, but less thorough, sometime during summer. Now I don't wear them below 14 °C (57 °F) so here that means I stop wearing them at the end of fall.
And you know what? They still look great! No cracked leather, nothing ripped, no separation of the layers, nothing. I think for that first pair I paid a 100, so a hundred bucks for shoes that I can wear for three years without any major decay, that's not a very high price. And there's no end in sight, so who knows for how long I will end up wearing them?
