CasaOS is an open-source OS for home servers!

In this video I demo CasaOS, an open-source “operating system” for home servers. It ships with the ZimaBlade but can be deployed to any Linux based OS.

The whole thing is basically a wrapper around Docker, which means you can fall back on a huge swatch of existing images and documentation around Docker.

  1. Casaos is not even made specifically for the zima, you can installl it on a verity of linux types like Debian.
Zima isn't worth it after the raspberry pi 5, and if you won't utilize the small size, you can get an old pc like the hp elitedesk 800 g3 with i5-7500 and 16GB ram for 100 usd. There are a ton of offers like it

  2. This would be a pretty cool alternative to my current setup where Iโ€™m running Portainer alongside webmin on top of Debian. I will need ZFS support though.
I honestly just want TrueNAS without their stupid kubernetes implementation that I donโ€™t need.

  3. Big shout-out to IceWhale Technologies for sponsoring this short and making CasaOS. If you're interested in CasaOS you can find the Github repo and project site via Google. If you're interested in checking out the ZimaBlade, their CrowdSupply campaign ends on October 31st and can be found on Google or on the "Links" section of my blog (link in bio).
