Linux Setup for Audio Production in 10 Minutes – Anyone Can Do It
It’s super easy to install, or even just try Linux for audio production. Here are 3 distributions worth checking out and some insights I’ve gathered during my years of using Linux to produce music.

I want to believe, but I'm pressing X to doubt.
What about ditto?
Which ones support atmos?
Chart registration?
Great video, I feel now motivated to try it out again. Even though I feel bad like having spend over 200€ for FL Studio that I can't use on Linux, but maybe I can improve my workflow with Adour and learn new things from it.
I would like to switch (when windows 10 support ends), but probably only if it's possible to run cubase and kontakt.
It's doable?
In theory, Yamaha stuff should work since they use MontaVista Linux in some of their products.
I'd love to see more on yabridge. Although I usually just stick with LMMS for my music creation (I suck as a musician) I won't mind expanding my knowledge. I use Ubuntu Studio because it's got darn near everything!
Linux is NOT a better version of Windows. If you just want to run your Windows DAW and your Windows plugins then stay with Windows. Although it's possible to run Windows software on Linux with WINE there is always the risk that you get into trouble because the software vendors are very creative with their "downloaders" and "license managers". If you want to use Linux for audio processing then use software that's availabe for Linux.
If you need an audio interface with more than 2 or 4 channels then you might need some software to control its internal mixer, in most cases available for Windows and Mac only. Focusrite supports a programmer who maintains a Linux kernel driver and a GUI to control the Scarlett interfaces (alsa-scarlett-gui). Works fine.
this may not be exactly the right place to ask, but has anyone here ever tried Linux on those AliExpress xeon "desktop" kits ? Thinking Abt getting me som 16c/32t xeon with 64gb ecc ddr4 and make me a cheapo workstation with mint.
I use Windows btw
Hey man! Thank you very much for the content. Nowadays are you using Arch Linux?
I’m a software developer and I’ve been using Fedora since 2018. I would like to try a new Linux to everything (music and development) and I don’t know if I try Ubuntu Studio or Arch (I know how to use Arch for development 😂)
Just recently switched to Windows 10 to Ubuntu Studio. Once I got hang of how Yabridge for VST plugins works, my workflow is exactly same as Reaper on Windows. Only negative thing about Ubuntu Studio is that there are many preinstalled "low quality" LV2 plugins.
awesome video. Please, bring more videos about VST compatibility. Question, I've heard that AKAI MPC is based on Linux and also Native Instrument Machine Plus was based on linux with amazing plug ins. What do you think we can do to bring them to the Linux desktop?
its not so much fear, its the fact that software i use Wont Work on your annoying Distros lol. protools bye, fl studio and logic byeeee and well when stuff is the core of your business and income thisaint worth the hassle and being cut off from stuff thats in my setup
Although you talk about music production in your example, I find your solutions useful for all users. You convey the same philosophy needed to be productive with Linux at the end of the day. I really enjoyed watching the video.
Not if you want to use Ableton Live in a production environment with ASIO and a pro audio interface. I've tried. Recent version of WINE. It's not responsive or reliable enough.
Great video! Thx
Didn't even hesitate to click on this one, very strongly considering switching my reaper rig to linux, as my hardware isn't supported by windows 11, and windows 10 is EOL october '25. Thank you for your hard work on this one
I use Arch btw
