LSA Types – BEST explanation tutorial of the types of LSA’s in OSPF



OSPF Routers share routing information using Link State Advertisements, or LSAs. There are 5 main types of OSPF LSAs, and all of them are used to populate a Router’s the Link State Database (LSDB), plus Type 6 and 7.

In this video, we illustrate and explain the 5 main types of OSPF LSAs plus Type 6 and 7 explanation.

Type 1 LSAs – Router LSA
Type 2 LSAs – Network LSA
Type 3 LSAs – Summary LSA
Type 4 LSAs – ASBR Summary LSA
Type 5 LSAs – External LSAs
Type 6 LSAs – Group Multicast LSAs
Type 7 LSAs – NSSA External LSAs

In this lesson we utilise the fabulous eve-ng for your virtual environment. You can opt for either the community or professional version.
If you want the professional version, which we are using, it is highly recommended and good value for the price and offers great extras.
You will also require a virtual environment for eve-ng. We are utilising vmWare Workstation Pro for our installation.
