Riverlea residents note a significant decrease in illegal mining activity in the area

Residents from Riverlea, south of Johannesburg, say there has been a significant decrease in illegal mining activity in the area, since the intervention by Police Minister Bheki Cele, last week.
On Friday, the Minister held an Imbizo in Riverlea, following concerns from residents regarding their safety following turf battles between rival gangs of illegal miners in the area.
Specialised task forces have since been deployed to the area in an attempt to rid of illegal miners.
