5. Chapter 3: Packages and Patches – How to build Linux From Scratch (LFS) 12.0

All the packages and patches required for the build are fetched and checked.

*nb* At time of recording, the ‘lfs-bootscripts-20230728.tar.xz’ file was failing the md5sum check. This has since been corrected by the LFS team and md5um should now report OK for this and all other files.

In this series of videos I demonstrate how to install LFS 12.0 on real hardware, replacing the Windows 10 system that is already installed on the disk. If you’ve never built Linux From Scratch before, don’t worry as I show every step in detail from beginning to end. From fetching and writing a bootable host Linux USB in Windows, disk configuration, fetching sources and compiling, right through to configuration and booting the final operating system, it’s all recorded in these videos.

The end result is a fully working Linux From Scratch system all built from publicly available open source code using the excellent instructions in the Linux From Scratch 12.0 book.
