  2. The majority of these things come out of the same factories as the ones on Temu, and Temu sells them at a third of the price. People are like “omg they sell your data or steal your banking info!” Probably thrown out there by the major US corporations like Amazon or Walmart to breed distrust so that they can keep raking in record profits 😂. My first Temu order contained a pair of Walmart brand sheer curtains that were tagged as such (mainstays label, the same as on the shelf at Walmart but they had them for three times the price), a universal Orlando marked character keychain that universal website had for four times the price, and an oddball colored rotary cheese grater that was the same exact one on Amazon that they were charging three times as much for. So no, you aren’t shopping more ethically locally. You’re just being charged three to four times as much for the “exact” same items from the exact same Chinese factories. I’ve been ordering from them for going on three years now and have zero problems. Sometimes something doesn’t work well or arrives bent or broken, but the refund process is quick and efficient. You aren’t getting your personal crap stolen anymore than Facebook, instagram, or even YouTube does. If I’ve had YouTube suddenly pop up with private conversation topics once anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours later after they so obviously “listened” to my conversation in my own home, I’ve had it happen a million times. Case in point-my daughter and I were upstairs away from everyone as well as away from our Alexa speaker and we were having a conversation about different reusable period products like washable pads that we were thinking of trying and discussing how to clean/care for them or if we’d even want to try. We carry our phones in our pockets though. Later that night out of the blue and without ever having typed out a search anywhere on the subject-YouTube started pitching me “how to use and clean period cups and reusable period pads”. Coincidence??? Yeah right. Any device hooked to the internet is LISTENING to us and finding out how to use this information to market to us, guaranteed. I don’t know how they do it, but they have to be doing it. This happens again and again here without ever having typed anything out on my phone about the topic of conversation. The topics are so privately personal and detail oriented as to be hard to deny they had to be listening somehow.
