16 Azure Stack HCI Stretched Cluster Series – Resilience Testing – Planned Maintenance

We will pause a node simulating a server maintenance, e.g. update + reboot. Pausing a node allows us to drain all roles it owns to other nodes, e.g. VM workloads on it will be live migrated.
After the node is up again and all is healthy and in sync – we then want to shut down a complete site, e.g., if a planned outage is due, e.g. a planned power repair, plumbing etc.
Performing site maintenance includes:
– Manual Live Migration of all VMs across sites networks
– Change replication direction to have the volume follow the VM, i.e. to stop redirected traffic
– Shutdown nodes
– Resume node / Watch repair jobs
– LM VMs back to where they were before
– Change replication direction as it was before
